I had the privilege to read one of the most profound verses in the Bible recently – It goes like this, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen …” (Luke 24: 5-6a). These powerful words were spoken to the women by two men in shining clothes at Jesus’ tomb. Jesus, Our Saviour died and rose again, end of story.
How many times have believers uttered the words, “We serve a Living God?”, yet forget this at the littlest sign of adversity, myself included. Always remember these profound words because your God is not dead as the movie says.
What does Jesus being alive mean to you as a believer? I am going to share my thoughts. I am most grateful that He shed his Blood on the Cross so that I do not have to sacrifice thousands of sheep to atone for my many, many sins. Think about it which of us could afford to buy the animals required for the sacrifice. None of us would be righteous before God. We would die in our sin! We should all remember to thank God each day for this ultimate sacrifice.
Secondly, when Jesus died He did not leave us as orphans. He gave us the gift of His Spirit which dwells within us, the Holy Spirit our helper; ” -… because the one who is in you is greater that the one who is in the world” – 1 John 4:4: Are you not thankful that you do not have to carry your God around with you everyday? Imagine how cumbersome that would be. Well let us look at Isaiah 46:5-7, “To whom will you liken Me, and make Me equal and compare Me, that we should be alike? They lavish gold out of the bag, and weigh silver on the scales, They hire a goldsmith, and he makes it a god; They prostrate themselves, yes they worship. They bear it on the shoulder, they carry it and set it in its place, and it stands; From its place it shall not move, Though one cries out to it, yet it cannot answer nor save him out of his trouble.” You can always count on God’s word to tell you the truth for Jeremiah 51:17-19, Habakkuk 2:18-20, Jeremiah 10:5, Psalm 115:1-8 and countless other scriptures have tell us the same thing.
God’s Word is the Truth. His Word is our guide to daily living, if we are fully committed to following His ways. That has even become a struggle for believers. So far as I can tell everything I have read to date in His Word is the Truth. Yes, I spelt that with a capital T. If you go after another man’s wife, you will pay the consequences – “drink water from your own cisterns”; choose your friends wisely, “bad company corrupts good morals”,do not make friends with an angry man because you will learn his ways; a good wife is a good thing to have; you can speak life or death into your life and situation; those who live by the sword will perish by the sword. No wonder the Bible is and continues to be the best seller of all time according to Guinness World Records with 5 billion copies sold and distributed.
I strongly believe that the Bible will continue to be the best seller of all time. Why, because Matthew 24:35 tells us that “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.” Think about this for a moment, people worshipped God before our time (in the ’30s, ’40s, ’50s); we continue to worship in our time; people will still worship God long after you and I have gone. The beauty of it is that there is absolutely nothing anyone can do about this because – He Lives.
